Obituary of Harry L Durant

Harry L. Durantof VestalThe loss of Harry L. Durant of Vestal on May 15th is deeply mourned by his family and friends. Harry will be remembered as a devoted husband of 67 years and a loving father to his six children. As the 7th child of Rose and Joseph Duran, Harry entered this world on June 29th, 1918 in Binghamton, N.Y. On January 4, 1941, he married his loving wife, Frances Willis of Johnson City, N.Y. As a veteran of World War II, Harry proudly served his country as a Sergeant in Battery C, 3rd Anti Aircraft Battalion for over 4 years. A dedicated employee of IBM Endicott, Harry worked as an assembler for over 30 years before retiring. Harry is survived by his wife, Frances; his son, Larri; his daughters, Carmen and her husband, Ed Zonio, Marlene and her husband, Tim Culver, Diane and her husband, Nelson Shirley, Therese and her husband, Tim Baxter, Lisa and her husband, Lou Micha. Harry was blessed with 13 grandchildren, Dereck Durant and Dena Marie Mina, Michael and Christopher Zonio, Kelly and Ryan Culver, Renee Parisella and Wayne Chidester, Rachel, Sam, and Abe Baxter, Matt and Julie Micha; and five great-grandchildren, Kyle and Jared Zonio, Tyler, Ali, and Preston Mina.Friends and family are invited to share a Memorial Service to honor Harry, to be held Monday, May 19, 2008, at 12 Noon at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Vestal. During his retirement Harry came to develop a deep affection for his constant and loyal dachshund companions. In the spirit of Harry's kindness and love for all pets and animals, a contribution can be made in his name to the Humane Society, 2 Jackson Street, Binghamton, N.Y. 13903.
