Obituary of Robert J. Roloson

Robert J. Roloson of Vestal, NY Robert J. Roloson, 82, of Vestal, NY, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2009, after battling cancer. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Tokiko (Kay); his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and David Vanderburg of Binghamton, NY; daughter, Sharon Roloson of Cortland, NY; daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Russell Crerar of Ooltewah, TN; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Linda Roloson of Winter Springs, FL; grandchildren, Kristin Roloson of Towson, MD, Ben and Lindsey Crerar of Ooltewah, TN, and Rebecca Mitchell of Cortland, NY; several brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews and their families. He was predeceased by brothers, Ken and Don, and sisters, Ruth Roloson and Elna Group. Robert served as Sergeant in the US Army from 1945 to 1950 during post World War II reconstruction and received the Army of Occupation Medal; Good Conduct Medal; World War II Victory Medal and Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal. He married the love of his life, Kay, in Tokyo, Japan on November 7, 1949 and then again in Binghamton, NY in 1951, after enacting a bill to Congress to allow Kay to enter the United States. He enjoyed being part of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8808 in Vestal. Robert was a member of the Central United Methodist Church. He was a self-employed architect for many years and worked for SUNY Binghamton for five years before retiring. His most notable architectural projects included: Vestal Hills Tower of Memories; the Russian Carpatho Club; Town of Vestal Fire Station #2, Oxford Fire Station and Vestal Town Highway Garage. He also served as a Vestal School Board member. He loved the outdoors, enjoying vacations in the Adirondacks. Camping, photography and sailing were his favorite pastimes leading to his involvement with the Susquenango Power Squadron. Funeral services will be held at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, 300 E. Main St., Endicott, NY on Thursday, March 26, 2009. The family will have calling hours at 10:00 a.m. with a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Vestal Hills Memorial Park.
