Jan R. McCarty of Apalachin
Jan R. McCarty, 59, of Apalachin, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at Binghamton General Hospital after a short illness. He was predeceased by his father, Vernon McCarty; and a brother, James Patrick McCarty. He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Bradley and Terry McCarty, Uniontown, PA; three daughters and a son-in-law, Darlene and Jesse Cohn, Valparaiso, IN, Alexandra McCarty and Caroline McCarty, both of Germantown, MD; two granddaughters, Katherine McCarty and Rosa Cohn; his mother, Beverly McCarty, Apalachin; one sister, Colleen McCarty, Apalachin; one brother, Mark McCarty, Tampa, FL; also several nieces and nephews. Jan was a retired IBM employee with 30 years of service and a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving with the US Army in Germany. He was a member of the Apalachin Grenadiers Drum and Bugle Corps. and a member of the Apalachin United Methodist Church. Jan was an avid fisherman and hunter and a Yankees and Giants Fan.
Funeral and Interment services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, March 28, 2009 at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, Inc., State Rt. 434, Apalachin, NY. The Rev. William Prentice will officiate. Burial will be at the family's convenience at Riverhurst Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until service time at 3 p.m. Those wishing may make contributions in his memory to the Apalachin Volunteer Fire Dept.
