Obituary of Anne T. Fontana
Anne T. Fontana
Endicott: After 100 years of living, having been spared of any illness, Anne T. Fontana of Endicott, NY has peacefully passed away on October 7, 2014, with gratitude to her friends, family, and the staff of Absolut Care Center by her side. Anne was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Anthony "Pee-wee" Fontana. Born to immigrant parents in Elmira, NY, Anne has called Endicott her home for the last 72 years. She is survived by her daughter, Anne Marie, and granddaughters, Karen, Kristen and Kathie. She was affectionately known as "Oldie Gram" to her 9 surviving great-grandchildren, Anthony, Erica, Kayla Alissa, Juliana, Quentin, Perry, Miranda and Cayden. She is also survived by her sister, Angie Melone; sister-in-law, Marge Fontana and many nieces and nephews. Never one to sit idle, Anne worked at Endicott Johnson until her retirement to become a full time caretaker to her husband. After his passing, Anne continued her caregiving as a great-grandmother being actively involved in the care of another generation. Unable to not "do," Anne believed in hard work. She could be found, in her 90's, outside racing snowflakes to clean her driveway, despite assurances from friends, family and neighbors that they would remove the snow. This personal mission of "I'll do it" was also waged against any dish placed in the sink or a piece of clothing heading to the wash. Ann was a lifelong member of St. Anthony's Church and her favorite time of everyday was her time spent alone with her rosary. Anne was known and beloved for her fierce honesty, "yes that looks bad on you," and "that sauce is awful." She had a fiercer loyalty to those she loved, while into her 90's; she would travel for special occasions of loved ones. She was Miss Independent before it was a term and her strength in its essence was her gift to the world. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, October 13, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 306 Odell Ave., Endicott. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends, Sunday, October 12, 2014 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, LLC, 300 E. Main Street, Endicott.
