Obituary of Mary S. Riffe
Mary S. Riffe of Owego, NY Mary (Marge) Riffe peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the home of her daughter on March 31, 2009 after a bravely fought battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold; her parents, Anthony and Nellie Scaia; and brother, Frank Scaia. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law who loved her dearly, Carolyn (Carl) Andreasen, Chris (Mark) Root, and Diane (Mike) Stephens, all of Apalachin. She was fun loving Grandma Marge to her six grandchildren, Keith Andreasen (his fiance, Christin DeVoe), Jen (Karl) Dodge, Sarah Stephens, and Amanda (Greg) Corson, all of Apalachin, Derek Andreasen, Dobbs Ferry, NY, and Bryan (Sarah) Stephens, Lexington, NC; five great-grandchildren, Jacob, Liam, Lana and Maura Corson and Jackson Stephens. Marge was born in Solvay, NY, February 12, 1931. While working at GE she met her future husband and they married on November 29, 1952. She was a hardworking and independent woman who continued working at her job at Wendy's Restaurant and doing her own yard work and other household chores until her illness prevented her from doing so. She was a member of the South Apalachin Baptist Church. Her family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Jonathan Kloss, the nurses at Broome Oncology, her hospice aid, Heather, and hospice nurse, Mary Beth. A very special thanks is extended to Bonnie Lillie who assisted with her care with love, tenderness and compassion. The family will receive friends on April 3, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, Rte. 434, Apalachin, NY. A memorial service will be held at the South Apalachin Baptist Church, 4116 Pennsylvania Avenue, Apalachin, NY, on Saturday, April 4, 2009, at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Michael Jayne officiating. Burial will be at the Tioga Cemetery, Owego, NY.
