Obituary of Joan E. Battey

Apalachin: Joan E. Battey, Apalachin, NY, died Friday, November 28, 2014. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Frederick S. Battey; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Susan Somers; and three grandsons, Paul, Peter and Adam; in Missouri. Joan was a prolific writer having worked for many years in newspapers and advertising, as well as having a natural talent in writing. She was also active over time in a number of animal welfare, education and other interests. Most recently she voluntarily assisted in proofreading with the Tioga County Courier. Calling hours at Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home in Apalachin are Tuesday, December 2, from 4-6pm. A short funeral service will be conducted by Father John Martinichio at 6pm following the viewing and burial will be in the Endicott, NY, Union Presbyterian Church, Riverside Cemetery, on Wednesday, December 3 at 11am.
