Obituary of Edgar Lee Smith

Edgar "Jim" Lee Smith, Jr., 83, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2015, at the Meadowview Senior Living Center in Montrose, PA. He is predeceased by his parents, Edgar and Thelma (Forsythe) Smith and sister, Patricia Smith. Jim is survived by his wife of 58 years, Gail Marie (Quinn) Smith; children, Marianne (Larry Ressler) Smith of Wesley Chapel FL, Donna (Fletch) Chapin of Maine, NY, James (Robin) Smith of Greenville, NY and Sheila (Rodney) Clymer of Windham, PA; brother, David (Judy) Smith of Danbury, CT; grandchildren, Kuuleilani (Jeff) Higa, Sarah (Bryan) Kelly, Fletcher (Bianca) Chapin, Lucas (Rebecca) Chapin, Nicolas (Carol) Chapin, Aaron Smith, Mackenzie Smith, Casey (Samantha) Clymer and Jerod Clymer; great-grandchildren, Julianna, Joy, Christopher, Alexandria, Isabella, Jonathan, Hailey, Eli, Isaac, Emma, and soon-to-be, Christian; special cousins, Ann Buyck, Ruth (Jerry) Griffin and Mary Lucille (Chet) Wilt and the "Dinner Group." Jim was a faithful husband, father, an Air Force Veteran of the Korean Conflict and worked at NYSEG for 37 years. Jim and Gail loved to travel to many places by either air or sea, and their favorite destination was Italy! Jim loved to garden, fish, hunt, camp, watch football, tennis, NASCAR and tinker with electronics. Alzheimer's took over the last 11 years. As the memories faded, so did the stress, and Jim was able to enjoy each day without the daily stress. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, January 23, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, 765 Main Street, Vestal, officiating will be Pastor Robert Quinn, Jim's brother-in-law. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
