Obituary of Leland Watkins

Leland E. Watkins of Apalachin Leland E. Watkins, 91, of Apalachin, died Monday morning, April 13, 2009, at the New York State Veterans' Home, Oxford, NY. He was predeceased by his parents, Bert and Nellie Watkins; his wife, Elizabeth Watkins; son, Roger Watkins; six brothers, three sisters, three brothers-in-law, one sister-in-law. He is survived by two daughters, Donna Worden and Nancy Kidd; a sister-in-law, Honora Maloney; ten grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Leland was a veteran of WWII serving with the US Army. He was a retired employee of GAF, Binghamton, the Apalachin United Methodist Church, the Apalachin Lions Club, VFW Post #1371, and was as avid golfer. A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, Rt. 434, Apalachin. The Rev. Mary Jean Simonin, Pastor of the Apalachin United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Apalachin. The family will receive friends 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The family would like to thank the staff of the NYS Veterans' Home for their care.
