Obituary of Eileen T. Sechrist

Eileen T. Sechrist, nee Thompson, 56, lost her battle with cancer on Sunday, August 9, 2015. She is predeceased by her mother, Jean Thompson. She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Raymond Sechrist; her father, John Thompson; her daughter, Jessica Sechrist and son, John Sechrist; her brothers, Sean and Patrick Thompson; and her sisters, Mary Thompson and Ann Taper; and many nieces and nephews. Eileen grew up in Westchester and Putnam Counties but fell in love with the Southern Tier, where she was able to keep a large garden, hike the gorges, frequent the used book stores, and enjoy the beauty of the area. She worked for the Vestal Post Office for more than 20 years as a member of their union, and continued her mail route until the end. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, August 14, 2015 at 12 Noon at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, LLC, 765 Main Street, Vestal. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to National Public Radio (npr.org/donate), which Eileen listened to devotedly her entire life.
