Obituary of Janice P. Ham
Janice Powers Ham of Apalachin, NY passed away peacefully on Sat., Feb. 20, 2016. Born in Binghamton, NY on Aug. 8, 1921, Jan attended Bucknell Univ. and Columbia Presbyterian School of Nursing and served as a Navy nurse stationed in Sampson, NY. She married Philip W. Ham in 1945 and spent 63 wonderful years with Phil until his death in Nov. 2008. For those who knew her for decades or days, Jan was loved as a rare soul combining generosity, love and humor who will be greatly missed. Special thanks go to the staff at Hilltop Campus of United Methodist Homes, Unit 1, where Jan received loving care for the last year of her life. She is survived by Martin W. Ham and his wife Melanie of Roanoke, VA; Roger P. Ham and his wife Denise of Hackensack, NJ; Debra Terpolilli of Horseheads, NY; Scott R. Ham and his wife Susan of Somerville, AL; and one grandson, Michael P. Ham and his wife Sally of Huntsville, AL. Jan was a long-time member of Park Terrace Community United Methodist Church in Apalachin. A memorial service will be held at the church at 30 Glann Rd. on Friday, Feb.26th at 11:00 am. Her remains will be interred next to Phil at Vestal Hills Memorial Park in Vestal, NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Park Terrace Community UMC, 30 Glann Rd, Apalachin, NY 13732, or to the UMH Foundation, JGJ Nursing Home, Unit 1, 10 Acre Place, Binghamton, NY 13904 in memory of Janice Ham.
