Obituary of Warren J Ayer

Warren J. Ayer, Sr. of Leesburg, FL Warren J. Ayer, Sr., of Leesburg, Florida, died unexpectedly at his home on May 1, 2009. Warren was born on August 14, 1926 in Endicott, New York, the son of the late Carl Hested Ayer and the late Sarah Mary Davies Ayer. He graduated from Union Endicott High School in 1947. He served in the United States Army during the later stages of World War II. He returned to Endicott, where he was employed by IBM in various capacities until his retirement in 1984. He married Lois Marie Sackett on January 24, 1948 and they made their residence in Newark Valley, New York, in the home they designed and built. Together they had two sons, Warren Jr. and Dean, and were longtime members of the Newark Valley First United Methodist Church. They enjoyed dancing, boating on New York's Finger Lakes, and later, land cruising to Florida in the motor home Warren designed and built. Lois predeceased him following their 54th wedding anniversary in January, 2002. Warren was an accomplished musician, playing both cornet and in later years, the guitar, while his paintings grace the homes of his grandchildren. Warren was a past commander of the Susquenango Power Squadron in Binghamton, New York, was a past master (1983) of the Speedsville-Newark Valley Lodge No. 265 of Masons, a past member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks in Owego, New York, and more recently, a member of the Silverlake Community Church in Leesburg, Florida. Warren is survived by his fianc, Irene Spring of Burlington, Ontario, Canada; his two sons, Warren J. Ayer, Jr., and his wife, Linda, of Colchester, Vermont, and Dean J. Ayer and his wife, Lisa, of Pfafftown, North Carolina. He is survived by three grandchildren, Trevor W. Ayer, Kristi L. Fuller, and Jason E. Richard, all of Vermont; and seven great-grandchildren, Audrey Tassey Ayer, Zion Lee Ayer, Theron Fuller, Rachel Fuller, Jeremy Fuller, Allison Richard and Camden Richard. He is also survived by three brothers, Terry Ayer of Windham, New Hampshire, Thad Ayer of Charlotte, North Carolina, and George Ayer of Napierville, Illinois. He was predeceased by his wife, Lois; and his sister, Norma Jean Virun. A public viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with the funeral service from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Monday, May 4, 2009, at the Silverlake Community Church, 34030 Radio Rd., Leesburg, Florida, where he was a member. A second public viewing will be held at Union Center United Methodist Church, 130 Maple Drive, Endicott, New York, on Wednesday, May 6, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. with the funeral service from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Interment will follow at Vestal Hills Cemetery in Vestal, New York. Contributions can be made to the Building Fund of the Union Center United Methodist Church in Endicott, New York, or to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are being made by Beyers Funeral Home in Umatilla, Florida, and Coleman and Daniels Funeral Home in Endicott, New York.
