Obituary of George W. Schmidt

George W. Schmidt of Endicott George W. Schmidt, 100, of Endicott, passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at the Ideal Senior Living Center in Endicott. George was born on February 28, 1909 in Port Jervis, NY and was the son of Charles and Lena Schmidt. He was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth A. Schmidt and a brother, Howard Schmidt. He is survived by a sister-in-law, Carolyn Schmidt; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Paul and June Adamek; and sisters-in-law, Christine A. Bower and Ruth C. Adamek. He was a loving and caring uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. George was an avid bowler and NY Yankee fan. He also enjoyed fishing and gardening. George was a 80 year member of Holy Nativity Lutheran Church of Endicott. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of Daffodil Court at the Ideal Senior Living Center, Bert, Holly and Annie and all the aides who took such good care of him. The family also wishes to thank the nursing students from Binghamton University who were so kind and compassionate to George. He was very excited to have reached his 100th birthday on February 28, 2009 and celebrated with his family and the staff at the nursing home. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, May 4, 2009 at 2 p.m. from the Holy Nativity Lutheran Church, 312 East Main St., Endicott with the Rev. James H. Walck officiating. Burial will follow in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive their friends on Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, Inc., 300 East Main St., Endicott. Those wishing are asked to make donations in his memory to the Organ Fund of Holy Nativity Lutheran Church or to C.H.O.W., 3 Otseningo St., Binghamton, NY 13903.
