Obituary of Wilma T. Foster

Foster, Wilma "Billie (1924-2016) Billie Foster, born August 15, 1924 to Gladys and Walter "Jack" Traver in Noxen, PA, passed quietly on Monday, August 29, 2016 in the company of her beloved children, Jeffrey and Bridget Foster. Billie grew up in Vestal, NY in a large and loving family, who always remained the center of her long and happy life. After supporting the war efforts at IBM during WWII, Billie worked at David's Dress Shop in Binghamton, and then the Endicott Library where she retired after 30 years. She was intelligent, progressive, caring and gentle, with a subtle sense of humor. She was artistic, stylish, and had a keen sense of design and decorating. Billie loved the outdoors - enjoying years of cross country skiing and daily walks in the local woods and fields, and was a fiercely competitive and talented golfer well into her late 80's. Always an avid reader, she was well informed, politically astute, and an amazing resource. As an outstanding cook, she was nutritionally focused which kept her in good health throughout her life. Vacationing at Indian Lake with her children and grandchildren was a yearly highlight. Weekly scrabble matches and card games with her sisters and close neighbors kept her entertained for many years. Billie was predeceased by her husband of 35 years, Yale Foster, and her siblings, Marjorie (Elmer) Andrews, Walter "Bud" (Clara) Traver, and Eleanor (and Kenny) Mosher. She is survived by her children, Bridget and Jeff Foster, her grandchildren, Timothy (Rhiannon) and Chelsea Foster, and her great grandchildren, Seth, Braden, Philip and Lillian Foster. She is also survived by her loving siblings, Alice (Phil) Weston, Mary (Al) Reed, Mark (Febb) Traver, and a large extended family of nieces and nephews. Daily sundowners with Billie, always a special time together with her children will be missed. Family, friends, and neighbors are welcome to a celebration of Billie's life on Friday, September 2, 2016 at 105 McFall Road, Apalachin, NY from 1-5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice.
