Obituary of John C. Costello
John C. Costello, of Vestal, passed away peacefully at the NYS Veterans Home at Oxford on Friday, October 7, 2016, at the age of 71. He is finally free from his hard fought battle with multiple sclerosis. John was predeceased in death by his parents, John and Elizabeth Costello, his Aunt Rose Mary Reap and his Uncle Charles Costello. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen, his daughter Kerry Bopp (Jim), his son J.P. (Amy), his beloved grandchildren, Brogan and Maggie. He is also survived by his sister, Patty (Jimmy) Corby, his brothers, Michael (Diane) and Bob (Susie), his Aunt Beverly Costello and many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
John graduated from Binghamton Central High School where he was a proud member of the AZ Fraternity. He attended Broome Tech and served in the U.S. Army. For many years, John was a well -known local automotive industry salesman. His personality left this Irishman unforgettable. John was proud of his participation in Vestal sports having been involved in little league, Sr. league, VYBO, football, soccer and basketball programs. He was a co-president of the Vestal Cagers Basketball Booster Club. John loved the NY Giants and enjoyed going to their games throughout his life. Later on in his life he found great pleasure cruising in his 1937 Chevy Coupe. He loved traveling to car shows with the Triple Cities Street Rods and Cruisin Buddies throughout the East Coast. John loved his many vacations in Cape Cod. He was the most peaceful when sitting on the beach. He also loved Rock N' Roll music, Cortese pizza, making people laugh with his story telling and his pug Henry. He was a good man, loved his Irish Heritage, his family and a good time. He would help anyone in need and will never be forgotten. "Until we meet again may God hold you in the palm of his hand."
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, LLC, 765 Main St. Vestal, and 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 801 Main St. Vestal, where a Funeral Mass will be offered. Burial will follow in Vestal Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m.
We would like to sincerely thank the staff on the Maple Unit at Oxford for the superior care given to John. It was heartwarming for his family to witness how truly loving the staff was to him.
