Wickizer, Mary SeckMary Seck Wickizer died on Monday, January 2nd 2017 at Saratoga Hospital in the presence of her family. Mary was born on April 5th 1912 in Sayre, PA, and was the second of nine children born to Julius Seck and Katherine Skyba Seck. Her parents immigrated to the United States from Eastern Europe in the early 1900s.During her childhood, Mary lived with her family on their farm in Nichols, NY. She married Edward Sherman Wickizer in 1933 in Owego, NY. After their son Robert was born, they lived in Endicott, NY then moved to Ross Corners in Vestal, NY where she lived for 57 years. Her husband died in 1982, and in 2005 Mary moved to Saratoga Springs to be near her son's family. She lived independently at Embury apartments until her death. Mary attended Binghamton School of Practical Nursing and graduated in September 1957. She practiced as a licensed practical nurse in the Broome County area, continuing in nursing well into her 80s. Always active in her community and church, Mary was a member of Legion of Mary, Our Lady of Sorrows Society, and taught 4th grade religious education. She also was involved with the Ladies Auxiliary Vestal Fire Station #3, and volunteered as an election-day poll worker for over 50 years.Mary was a communicant of Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Vestal, NY and recently the Church of St. Peter in Saratoga Springs. She was devoted to her Catholic faith and to her family. She will be remembered for her joyful spirit and her genuine enthusiasm for all that life had to offer. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sisters, Julia Olmstead, Rose Butch and Ann Wolf and her brothers, John, Michael, Andy and Joseph Seck. Survivors include her beloved son Robert (Joyce) Wickizer, Saratoga Springs; grandchildren, Alan (Megan) Wickizer, Chappaqua NY, Lauren Wickizer (Francesco D'Amico), Ballston Spa, NY and Linda Jansen, Ballston Spa, NY; great grandchildren, Craig Wickizer, Cheryl Wickizer and Christopher Guerriero. She was the cherished "Aunt Mary" to many nieces and nephews.Relatives and friends may call from 10 - 11am, Friday, January 6th in the Church of St. Peter, 241 Broadway, Saratoga Springs. A prayer service will follow at 11am.A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Vestal, at 10am on Monday, January 16th. Interment will immediately follow at Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City, NY.Arrangements are under the direction of the William J.
