Obituary of James L Vicks

James L. Vicks, 82, of Vestal, NY passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2017. He was predeceased by his parents, Lester and Jennie (Sykes) Vicks, brothers Dudley and Carl, and his beloved companion Smokey 1. He is survived by 3 sons, Michael (Wilma), Johnson City, NY, James Jr., Apalachin, NY and Jon (Denise), Vestal, NY. Grandchildren Steven (Heather) Vicks, Vestal, NY and Aleea Vicks, Hicksville, NY. Also survived by 3 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, the mother of his children, Barbara Rathbun, and his beloved furry friends Smokey 2 and Smokey 3. Jim served in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged. Jim was an officer of the Vestal Police Department. He was also involved with the start-up of the Vestal Elks Lodge 2508 and is a Charter Member. Jim was a Lifetime and proud member of the Vestal Fire Department (Company No. 1) and Vestal Fire Police. His hobbies were camping and fishing at Traveland and Lake Bonin in PA and his dogs. Smokey 1 performed with the Carousel Cities Youth Ballet, participated in local parades, in his many costumes, and drove his own four-wheeler. The family would like to thank Ross 3 at Lourdes Hospital for their kind and considerate care, and the exceptional concern and care for Jim while at the Sunrise Garden area of Vestal Park Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, Vestal, NY. The family will receive friends Saturday, September 9, 2017, from 10:00 - 12:00 PM at Coleman and Daniels Funeral Home LLC, 765 Main Street, Vestal, NY. There will be no services. Burial will be at Vestal Hills Memorial Park, Vestal, NY at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers expression of sympathy in James' memory may be made Vestal Fire Company No. 1, 605 Vestal Parkway W., Vestal, NY 13850.
