Obituary of Jack Vargason
Vestal - Jack R. Vargason passed away at age 91 on June 8, 2018 in Binghamton, New York. Jack joined the Navy at the age of 17 to fight for his country. He served from 1944 to 1946 in World War II on the USS San Jacinto CVL-30. He earned the Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon (1 star) and the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Medal (5 stars). Jack lived his life with a tremendous respect and love for his country. He dedicated his career working at IBM until he retired early in 1986. He drove school bus for Vestal School District for 15 years. Jack was predeceased by his wife Virginia in 1993 after being married for 36 yrs. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Sarah and Robert Vargason; his stepmother, Anna Vargason; brother, Joseph Vargason; stepbrother, Walter McHale; and great-grandchildren Cynthia Isabelle, Cody and Kyle. He was also predeceased by two very special companions, his dogs, Colonel and Barney. Jack is survived by his companion, Helen Vargason; sons, Edward (Cathy) Vargason, William (Carol) Vargason, and Robert (Peggy) Vargason Pervenecki; daughters, Cheryl (Joe) Alich and Deborah (Wayne) Vargason Blickley; grandchildren, Kimberly, Tamara, Ronald, and Shane; Tami, Stacey, and Dustin; Wendy, Crystal, Heather, and Kevin; Gretchen, Megan, Cody, and Corbit; Andrew, Brian, and Jeremy; 18 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandsons; and nieces, JoAnn and Darlene. He also leaves behind his adored cat, Tiger. Jack had a passion for hunting, archery and fishing. He was a lifetime member at American Legion Post 89 and VFW Owego; and a member at Masonic Lodge 533 and Elks Lodge 2508. Friends and family are welcome to attend the graveside service with military honors on Wednesday, June 13 at 11:00 a.m. at Vestal Hills Cemetery, 3997 Vestal Rd, Vestal, New York, 13850.
