Homer C. Besecker, Jr.
Vestal - Homer "Sonny" Curtis Besecker Jr., 90, of Vestal, NY peacefully went to be with the Lord on August 17, 2018. He is predeceased by his loving wife of 64 years, Rosemary, as well as his parents and two sisters. He is survived by his four children, Robert (Cynthia) Besecker; Bonnie (Michael) Guest; Suzann (Michael) Gance; Karen (Daniel) Nash; his sister Sandra Schreck; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews that were very dear to his heart. He also leaves behind Barb Pompeii (his buddy) and Tiffany Sanders, his caregivers who tirelessly gave their time and love in the last years of his life. The endless compassion and genuine friendship they showed Homer has been deeply appreciated by his family members. A World War II veteran, Homer was part of the United States Navy and took part in Operation Highjump while aboard the USS Pine Land. He later went on to work at IBM for 30 years, were he took great pride in assisting with the space shuttle projects. In his personal life, Homer was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a self taught master carpenter. Homer was known for always being generous with his time and finances and found joy in giving to numerous charities. His persistence and sense of humor helped to carry him through a blessed and joy filled life - he will be greatly missed. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 26, 2018 from 2-5pm at Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, 765 Main Street, Vestal. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday at 11am at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 701 W. Main Street, Endicott. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Homer's memory can be made to the American Red Cross.
