Obituary of Lola Tevyaw
Lola Bates Tevyaw died peacefully at Willow Point Nursing Home in Vestal, NY on the morning of January 21, 2019. She had been a resident of the home since suffering a major stroke in 1997. She was preceded in death by her late husband, August Tevyaw, and sister Beatrice Walter of Whitney Point. She is survived by her sister, Judith Bates Wysnewski, currently of Sarasota, FLA, her brother-in-law, Roy Wysnewski, her two nephews, John Walter and Jay Shelton, her two nieces, Rosemarie Mahoney and Amy Shelton, along with their spouses and children. Lola was born on February 5, 1934 to Henry 'Happy' and Clara Maas Bates, who both worked at the E.J. factory. Lola, the middle Bates girls, grew up on W. Franklin Street in Endicott, NY. She graduated from Union Endicott HS in 1952, and went on to earn a BA in Education at Cortland University. Soon after she received a Master's degree, plus 30 credits, from Penn State University. She was a beloved teacher at Homer Brink Elementary School, part of the Maine-Endwell Central School District, where she taught both first and second grade for over 30 years. Lola was known for her generous heart and outgoing spirit. As anyone who crossed her door can attest, her home was lively and you could always count on a hot meal. She cooked with gusto, sang loudly and played her baby grand piano every day until her stroke in 1997. Lola was a true Triple Cities original and will be dearly missed. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, LLC, 300 E. Main St., Endicott. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in Vestal Hills Memorial Park, Vestal.
