Obituary of Darren Garis Newman

Darren Newman Darren Newmanof Little Meadows, Pa.Darren Newman, 23, of Little Meadows, Pa., passed away on October 2, 2008 due to complications from Muscular Dystrophy. Born April 1, 1985 in Johnson City, N.Y., Darren grew up on Lake O'Meadows in Little Meadows, Pa. This serene environment provided an ideal place to grow up and Darren spent much time enjoying nature with his dog, Arthur. Darren's unique personality drew support from around the lake community; this fostered close ties with family and friends there. Darren graduated from Montrose Area High School in 2004 where his class bestowed on him the honor of leading their entrance in the graduation ceremonies. Darren was a student at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and was in the process of obtaining a Bachelor of Arts. He was surrounded there by a caring and eclectic group of faculty and friends and was able to enjoy college life to a full extent despite his disability. In the dorm environment at Edinboro, Darren was a confidant to his peers and sympathized deeply with the special circumstances of many of the students there. He enjoyed music, film, and was a proud supporter of the Edinboro University Fighting Scots Wheelchair Basketball team. Surviving are his parents, David and Carol Newman, Little Meadows, Pa.; and his sisters and brothers-in-law, Alison and Steven Martin, Goshen, N.Y. and Alicia and John Nolt, Potterville, Pa.; his special aunt and uncle, Linda and Gary Newman; and cousins, Matthew, John, and Nathan Newman.
