Obituary of Phillip C Ebbers

Phillip C. Ebbers of Endicott Phillip C. Ebbers, 81, of Endicott, NY, went to be with his LORD on Monday, September 28, 2009, after a long struggle with Parkinson's disease. He was born in Sheboygan, WI on September 21, 1928 to the late Chester and Lavina Ebbers. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Frances M. Ebbers of Endicott, NY; son, Timothy and daughter-in-law, Melissa Ebbers of Essex, VT and grandsons, Jonathan and his wife, Heather of South Burlington, VT, and Peter Ebbers of Essex, VT; daughter, Elizabeth and son-in-law, John Hiner and grandsons, Andrew and Grayson of Hershey, PA; daughter, Catherine and son-in-law, Stephen Mercier and grandchildren, Zachary, James, and Anna of Londonderry, NH. He served in the US Army from 1950 to 1953 during the Korean Conflict; then graduated from the University of Wisconsin at Madison in 1955. That same year, he was employed by the IBM Corp. in Owego and served for 34 years as an engineer and manager until his retirement in 1989. Phillip was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, Endicott, where he served as a deacon and an elder. He participated in the Chancel and Handbell choirs and was actively involved in the life of the church through small groups and mission programs. He also volunteered in the Boy Scouts of America, an after-school tutoring program and the Samaritan soup kitchen. Phil was an avid sailor and served as a Commander and Full Certificate Holder of the Susquenango chapter of the US Power Squadron. His other interests included archery, golf, tennis and creating stained glass art. His kind, loving, and quiet spirit touched many lives and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. His life will be honored and celebrated at a memorial service on Friday, October 2, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 29 Grant Ave., Endicott, the Reverends Timothy and Janice Devine, Co-Pastors of his church, will officiate. Interment will take place in Cedar Grove, WI at a later date. The family will receive friends at the church Friday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Phillip's memory may be made to the Memorial Fund, c/o First Presbyterian Church, 29 Grant Ave., Endicott, NY 13760.
