Obituary of Victor L. Rose

Victor L. Rose of Vestal Victor L. Rose, 87, of Vestal, passed away October 10, 2009 at home with his wife at his side. Victor was predeceased by his parents, Clara and Clifton Rose; and three brothers, Herman, Rex, and George. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ann Marie; and four children, Victor Jr. and wife, Pat, Fayetteville, NC, Maryann Thompson, Monte Vista, CO, Jean Rose-Klein, Binghamton, Eloise Hooper and husband, David, Creede, CO; also surviving are a sister, Louise Zur; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins; and his best friends, Jim Reid and Ken Hildebrandt. Victor was a proud Veteran of WWII, serving as a B-17 and B-29 Gunner during 53 combat missions over Europe and the Pacific. Vick was a life member of American Legion Post 907, Candor, NY, and served as Post, Tioga County, and Sixth District Commanders. Vick was a self-employed Building Contractor until he began work as Building Maintenance Supervisor for the Town of Vestal, a position he held for 14 years until retirement in 1987. He built many fine homes around Broome County and his exception carpentry skills were the "gold standard" for friends and relatives. Along with Ann Marie, he built a lovely home in Vestal and was especially proud of his garden and orchard. Vick spent his retirement doing small remodeling jobs and traveling to Colorado, Germany and North Carolina to visit his children. As a descendent of ancestors who first came to this country in April 1660, Victor was a student of his family's heritage and was especially fond of family reunions. His family would like to express their gratitude to Dr.'s Linda Fort and Julia Miller, and Lourdes Hospice for their exceptionally kind and compassionate care. A Memorial Service for Victor will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, October 15, 2009, at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, Inc., 765 Main St., Vestal. The Rev. Susan E. Davis will officiate. Interment with Military Honors will follow in the Vestal Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make contributions in his memory to a charity of their choice.
