Obituary of Emily M Guiles

Emily Guiles, 96, of Vestal passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 6, 2020. She will forever be lovingly known by family and friends as "Grandma G." or "GiGi". She was predeceased by her husband, Irving L. Guiles, Jr., as well as several siblings with whom she was very close. Her legacy will live on through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who were so important to her, as well as the countless friends and relatives who she impacted in such a positive way. Grandma G. was known by many locally for her decades of work installing wallpaper in homes, a craft she truly loved. She will always be fondly remembered for her love of working outdoors at her farm in Vestal, seasonally decorating her "goose girls" for passersby, and for mowing her lawn well into her 90's (despite being cautioned against it by everyone who knew her). She spread an abundance of love to everyone she encountered and found so much happiness in visits, phone calls, and cards from her loved ones. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that anyone who was impacted by Emily's life send a card or perform an act of kindness for someone in need - especially those who are currently isolated in nursing homes and hospitals. She spread so much joy to everyone she met, and continuing to share that light with others would be the most appropriate and meaningful tribute to her. A private ceremony will be held by the family, with the intention of scheduling a celebration of her life at a later date.
