Obituary of Maxine Faith Bailey

Maxine F. Bailey, 90, of Apalachin, NY passed peacefully, with her family providing her love and support. She joins her beloved husband Bernard (Bud) who passed away in 2010. Maxine and Bud were married in 1951 and worked tirelessly together to build a family and contribute to the community. Along with their son, Tom, they founded Bud's Place restaurant in 1980 where it has continued in business under family ownership. Maxine loved the business and more importantly the friendships and camaraderie she garnered through those years. Maxine was a thoughtful and giving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother – always putting her family before herself. Through her life she was active as a member of the Apalachin Fire Department Women's Auxiliary, the Apalachin Grenadiers Drum and Bugle Corps Booster Club, a Girl Scout troop leader as well as a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Owego, NY. Born in Vandling, PA, Maxine was the oldest child of the late Cyril and Dolly Rotherforth. She was raised in Forest City, PA, graduating from Forest City Regional High School in 1949. She was preceded in death by two younger siblings, Noreen Swegel and LeRoy Rotherforth and her beloved daughter Karen Maxine Bailey. Her early years informed her whole life, emphasizing the importance of family, church, and community. Maxine is survived by her brother Gary Rotherforth of Forest City, PA, and her children Tom (Tammy) of Apalachin, NY, Bernard (Dianne) of Potomac, MD, Joylyn Snyder (Robert) of Brackney, PA and John (Julie) of Germantown, TN. Her greatest joy was being blessed with ten grandchildren – Heather, Thomas, Autumn, Karen, Eric, Kimberly, Michael, Bailey, Bradford, and Chris as well as nine great grandchildren – Elijah, Daniel, Ryan, Evelyn, Oliver, Phineas, Ainsley, Hannah, and Nora. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 8, 2021 at 12:00 PM in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Owego, NY. Maxine will be laid to rest at Union Dale Cemetery, Union Dale, PA with a graveside service at 3:00 PM. All are welcome to join in celebrating Maxine's life. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund (JDRF). Maxine's children express their gratitude to Riverview Manor in Owego, NY, Reverend Trula Hollywood and St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Owego, NY, and Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, Endicott, NY.
