Through her life she was active as a member of the Apalachin Fire Department Women's Auxiliary, the Apalachin Grenadiers Drum and Bugle Corps Booster Club, a Girl Scout troop leader as well as a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Owego, NY. Born in Vandling, PA, Maxine was the oldest child of the late Cyril and Dolly Rotherforth. She was raised in Forest City, PA, graduating from Forest City Regional High School in 1949. She was preceded in death by two younger siblings, Noreen Swegel and LeRoy Rotherforth and her beloved daughter Karen Maxine Bailey. Her early years informed her whole life, emphasizing the importance of family, church, and community. Maxine is survived by her brother Gary Rotherforth of Forest City, PA, and her children Tom (Tammy) of Apalachin, NY, Bernard (Dianne) of Potomac, MD, Joylyn Snyder (Robert) of Brackney, PA and John (Julie) of Germantown, TN. Her greatest joy was being blessed with ten grandchildren – Heather, Thomas, Autumn, Karen, Eric, Kimberly, Michael, Bailey, Bradford, and Chris as well as nine great grandchildren – Elijah, Daniel, Ryan, Evelyn, Oliver, Phineas, Ainsley, Hannah, and Nora. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 8, 2021 at 12:00 PM in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Owego, NY.
