Obituary of LaVonne F. Nelson

LaVonne F. Nelson passed away on the 12th of November to be with our heavenly father. LaVonne was born in December of 1932 to her loving parents William and Eula Griffith. She and Douglas Nelson, her husband of more than 60 years, lived close to their children and grandchildren in the town of Maine. LaVonne worked in the maternity ward at Ideal Hospital; when Ideal Hospital closed, LaVonne transferred to Binghamton General Hospital as an O.R. tech before retiring at the age of 65. She spent her time in retirement taking daily walks to check on friends and family, exploring the woods with her John Deere Gator, faithfully going to church each Sunday, having lunch and talking with friends at Friends Diner, knitting and sewing, and putting puzzles together with her cat. LaVonne Nelson was preceded in death by her mother and father, William and Eula Griffith; her three sisters Rosella, Barbara, and Elsie; her brother Leonard; her husband Douglas Nelson; and two of her sons, Carlton and Timothy. LaVonne is survived by her sister-in-law Elenor; her children, Robert (Joyce), Douglas (Beth), Wayne (Joanne), and Jane (Charles). She was also survived by her grandchildren Dianna (Chris), Donna (Marty), Rob (Jen), Amy (Dan), Danielle (John), Alisha, Amber (Justin), Jessica (Chad), Rebecca, Lottie (John), Shannon (Vinnie), Betty, and Dustin; her great-grandchildren Adam (Bethany), Allison (Mike), Linsey, Dylan, Aden, Jonathan, Ella, Cody, JR, Mia, Lloyd, Ivory, Riley, Mason, Trinity, and Mia; her great-great-grandchildren Cash and Emery; her many nieces and nephews; and her pets Thomas, Pumpkin, and her rooster. Funeral Services will be held Thursday November 18, 2021 at 12PM from the First Baptist Church of Maine. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the Church Thursday from 11AM until time of service at noon.
