Obituary of Clara Jean Kany
Clara Jean Kany of Little Meadows, PA
Clara Jean Kany, 83 (Ma Kany) (Grandma Duck), our wonderful mother, passed away on Friday, November 20, 2009, surrounded by her loving family at her side so that she could join her husband and children in Heaven. Jean was predeceased by her loving husbank, Frank (Pa) Kany Jr.; her children, David Voorhees, Sandy Bennett, Frank Kany III, and Debbie Mock. She was also predeceased by her parents, George and Dorothy Miller; grandchildren, Cathy and Dustin; great-granddaughter, Wendy; brothers, George and Beaver; and her sisters, Alice and Delores. She is survived by her children, Marge Voorhees, Rockwell, NC, Jeffrey (Sue) Kany, Little Meadows, PA, and Dorene (Tom) Gregg, Little Meadows, PA; her daughters-in-law, Donna Voorhees, Emma Scott; and sons-in-law, Dennis Bennett and Leon Mock. Also surviving are two brothers and five sisters, and too many nieces and nephews to count. Mom has 27 grandchildren, more than 40 great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren. Ma Kany became famous for her and dad's dedication to the Little Meadows Fire Department and Rescue Squad and The Pennsylvania State Fire Police, where she would go head-to-head with the firemen and their by-laws. She generously supported the Fireman's Bingo and the PA Lottery. Jean also had room in her life for her many grandchildren, several of which she helped raise. During the summers, there were always picnics filled with her famous macaroni salad, macaroni and cheese, and chocolate chip cookies. When Mom had spare time on her hands, which was a lot over the past few years, she passed time away playing Yahtzee, Bingo, and scratching off lottery tickets. Family was always first for her. She never forgot a birthday and loved each new grandchild as if it were the first. She enjoyed the simple things in life, such as fishing, garage sales, and watching to see what the neighbors were doing. Mom was very patriotic. She was always seen wearing a patriotic shirt or a flannel shirt, her choice of fashion. Mom never had a driver's license, but she was the best backseat driver there ever was. Mom's extended family included many neighbors in our community. She had two very special friends that she raised from children as she watched their antics through her kitchen window. Cindy and Freddie DeMann took care of Mom when her family was not able to, and we thank them very much for their love and kindness to our mother. Mom will be sadly missed by all of those she touched in her almost 84 years of life. She will be especially missed by three of her grandchildren, who cared for and sat by her side day and night for the past several weeks: Mark, Jeff and Ginger.
A Funeral Service for Jean will be held 1 p.m. Monday, November 23, 2009, at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home Inc., State Route 434, Apalachin, NY. The Rev. Larry Jennings, Pastor of the Warren Center Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Warren Center Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 11 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make contributions in Jean's memory to the Little Meadows Volunteer Fire Department or the Little Meadows Volunteer Rescue Squad.
