Obituary of MIchael J. Scanlan

Michael J. Scanlan Of Vestal Michael J. Scanlan, 82, of Vestal, went to be with the Lord, November 24, 2009 at Wilson Memorial Hospital. Michael is survived by his significant other of 29 years, Shirley Davis; his children, Michael Scanlan of Tennessee and his children, Jennifer and Ryan; Mary Ann Nelsen of California; Kim Scanlan of Hamden, New York and his Children, Melissa, Jessica and Jeffrey; Joseph Scanlan of Virginia and his children, Joseph, Daniel and David; James Scanlan of Korea and his children, Hannah and Issac; Suzanne Day of Chicago and her son, Harpur; Patrick Scanlan of Colorado and his children, Martin and Stella; his brothers, Walter Scanlan of Maryland, Richard and Gerald Scanlan of Oregon; a sister, Caroline Shaffer of Schenectady; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Melissa Warmer, Schnectedy. He is also survived by his ex-wife, Joan Scanlan of Kirkwood. Michael was a U.S. Marine in World War II. After the war, he graduated from Cobleskill College. Michael worked for twenty-eight years at Dairylea Corp. where he was a field rep, manager of the milk plant, and a division manager. Michael worked for Vestal Central School as a bus driver for twenty-two years, and he had his own business, Scanlan's Auto Parts in Vestal. Michael also drove an armored car for AMSA Bank Services. Michael loved to hunt pheasants with his dog that he trained, loved to ride horses, loved to cut trees, split wood and do anything outdoors. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, and especially by Shirley and her family. Memorial Services for Michael will be held on Saturday, 12:00 Noon from the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, 765 Main St., Vestal, with the Rev. John Putano officiating. The family will receive their friends on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
