Obituary of Erwin "Skip" W. Hausamann, Jr.
Erwin "Skip" W. Hausamann, Jr., 86, of Endicott passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 8, 2022. He was predeceased by his parents, Erwin Sr and Gladys (Gay) Hausamann, and grandson, Maxwell James Lupo. Skip grew up in Longmeadow, MA and was a 1953 graduate of Mt. Herman Preparatory School. He attended Duke University before serving his country as a drill instructor in the United States Air Force. He was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX, where he met his wife, LaVon. Skip retired from IBM as a Sr. Assoc. Engineer in 1990. Upon retirement, he and LaVon devoted themselves full-time to their wedding/portrait photography business. He will be fondly remembered by BC Open volunteers for the most professional identification badge photos ever! Skip's life was driven by family and community service. He and LaVon were married for 65 years and raised a loving family, including two beautiful great grandchildren. For over 50 years, he faithfully attended Central United Methodist Church in Endicott, where he was a proud member of the church choir. In partnership with fellow church members, he committed a lifetime to helping others in his community. Together, they helped families recover from devastating floods, resettle after fleeing Vietnam, and find food and comfort at Shepard's Supper. Skip also served his community for 40 years as a devoted member of the Endicott Rotary, serving as the Club's President during its fundraising campaign and dedication of Round Top Park in Endicott, NY. His unwavering commitment to a more just society moved him to actively participate in national and local politics, including a couple of his own campaigns for Endicott Trustee and Town of Union Supervisor. His volunteerism made a mark on this community and afforded him opportunities to make life-long friends. Skip is survived by his beloved wife, LaVon (Collins) Hausamann; his brother, Richard (Carol) Hausamann of Springfield, MA; his three children, Deborah Buglione (Dr. Michael) of Vestal, NY, Eric Hausamann (Stephanie) of East Greenbush, NY, and Jennifer Small (Glenn) of Binghamton, NY; his grandchildren, Matthew Buglione, Andrea Buglione of Denver, CO, Stephanie Buglione of Oakland, CA, Ethan Hausamann, Daniel Hausamann, Kara Hausamann of Latham, NY, and Margaret (Devin) McMicken of Endicott, NY; his great-grandchildren Peter Henry Rulison and Murphy McMicken. Our family would like to thank the ICU staff at Wilson Hospital, most notably his primary nurse, Jeanna, and Dr. Swarup. We are grateful without end for their compassion and care for our Dad – for our whole family. Their unconditional commitment should be held in the highest regard. A funeral service will be held on January 22, 2022 at Central United Methodist Church, 17 Nanticoke Avenue, Endicott. The family will receive friends from 2-3 pm, immediately followed by a Christian service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Broome County Council of Churches.
