Obituary of William C. Herciga

Lord grant eternal rest to our beloved father, grandfather, husband, and friend, William, who passed away on 05/05/22. He lived to be 100 years old. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Mary Hriciga, sisters Anne Rugala and Mary Herciga, and brother Michael Herciga. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Margaret Herciga, his daughters, Lise (Ted) and Kristen (Keith), his grandchildren, Quinn (Kyle), Brett, Dylan (Kaylea) and Nick, as well as four great-grandchildren. He was the loving brother of Helen Darpino and Lillian Fotiou. William, better known to his family and friends as Bill, was born on November 19, 1921 in Starina, Czechoslovakia and immigrated to the United States with his family as a young boy. He proudly served during WWII in the Navy as a Lieutenant Commander and Navy pilot from October 1942 through February 1946, stationed on the USS Huntington, and was also in the Naval Reserves for many years. After graduating from Syracuse University, Bill also had a successful career in management at IBM and upon retirement, enjoyed many years of skiing and golfing. He would come home every day after golf and tell his family, "I think I finally have my golf swing down!". This must have been true as one year he shot a hole in one at En-Joie Golf Course. The family would like to thank the staff at James G. Johnston Memorial Nursing home for their devoted care and compassion during this difficult time. They provided comfort and peace to his family. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 10th, 2022 at Sts. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church, 210 Hill Avenue, Endicott, NY with Rev. Fr. Alexey Karlgut officiating. Burial will be at a later date. The family will receive friends at Sts. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church from 10:00AM-11:00AM with the funeral immediately following at 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to United Methodist Homes Foundation UMH NY Corp, 10 Acre Place, Binghamton, NY 13904 or Sts.
