Obituary of Michael M Echan
Michael M. Echan of Vestal, NY, 80, formerly of Scranton, PA, passed away at home surrounded by family on October 11, 2022, after a short illness.
Born September 29, 1942 to the late Michael J. and Cecelia Echan, he graduated from University of Scranton and SUNY Cortland. Mike was a veteran of the USMC Reserves. He was an elementary school teacher for 34 years in the New Jersey, Syracuse and Vestal School Districts. He also retired from US Airways. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Joan Kelleher Echan, three loving daughters, Cheryl (Joe) Mancini, Martha Echan (Bruno Giordano), Jennifer (Jason) Scull; three brothers, Rich, Jack & Joe Echan; three sisters, Mary Louise Plisko, Carol Katawczik & Dorothy Jones and his pride and joy–seven grandsons, Nate, Leonardo, Mike, Andy, Gabe, Graham & Dashel, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Mike enjoyed spending time with family & friends, riding his motorcycle, skiing, watching baseball and listening to polka music. Mike could fix or repair all things and for that his family remains eternally grateful. After all, you can't spell "mechanic" without "m-echan."
Family will receive friends on Monday, October 17, 2022 from 9:30 - 10:45 AM at Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, 300 E. Main Street, Endicott. A mass of Christian burial will directly follow on October 17th at 11:30 AM at St. James Church, Johnson City, NY. Burial will be at Riverhurst Cemetery, Endwell, following the mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mercy House of the Southern Tier, 212 N. McKinley Ave. Endicott, NY 13760 or St. James Food Pantry, 147 Main St. Johnson City, NY 13790.
