Obituary of Violet Story

Violet Belle Story (Nickel) of Endicott April 9, 1928 - December 26, 2009 Died in the arms of her loving husband of 57 years to be with her Lord and Savior. Violet was surrounded by her family and left us peacefully knowing that she was loved and cherished by her loved ones. She was predeceased by her parents, Howard A. and Viola Nickel; and her mother- and father-in-law, Elva E. and George B. Story. She is survived by her husband, George, who loved, supported, and cared for her throughout her 10-year struggle with Alzheimer's. She is also survived by her son, George A. Story Jr. and his wife, Theresa A. of Endicott; her son, Brian S. Story and his wife, Amy of Canandaigua; her daughter, Pamela L. Story of Stamford, CT; her daughter-in-law, Susan M. Story of Endicott; grandchildren, Ashley M. and Thomas D. Story, Mathew S. and Kathryn J. Story, Scott J. Dumas; brother and sister-in-law, Howard A. and Jane Nickel; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Kenneth Frajter of Cleveland, OH; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Thomas A. and Joanne Story of Sealy, TX. Violet was born in Cleveland, OH and attended and graduated from Bay Village High School. She worked for the Bay Village Board of Education, Diamond Alkali, and the Boy Scouts of America before retiring to have and raise her family. She resumed her education again in 1986, attending Edison State College, Dayton, OH and graduating with an AAS in Early Childhood Development in 1989. She worked as a Day Care provider in Troy, OH until moving to Erie, PA, and then to Endicott, NY with her husband. Violet enjoyed singing with several organizations, including the Cleveland Messiah Choir and Cleveland Lutheran Acappella Choir. She also enjoyed painting and her "masterpieces" hang on the wall of the family home. Violet was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, and most recently was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Vestal, NY. Violet struggled with Alzheimer's Disease for the last 10 years. She was supported and cared for by her husband as well as the Golden Days Adult Day Care Center staff at Susquehanna Nursing Home (SNH). The family wishes to especially thank the staff at SNH for Violet's care and their concern as Violet's condition worsened. Violet will be missed by all. The family will receive visitors at Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, 300 E. Main St., Endicott, NY on Tuesday, December 29, from 4-7 p.m. Funeral Services will be conducted on Wednesday, December 30, at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 709 Main St., Vestal, NY, Reverend Dr. Larry Hendricks presiding. Interment will immediately follow the service at Vestal Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association , 441 West Kirkpatrick St., Syracuse, NY 13204; or to Grace Lutheran Church Organ Fund, 709 Main St., Vestal, NY 13850; or to Golden Days Adult Day Care, 282 Riverside Dr., Johnson City, NY 13790.
