Obituary of Frederick S. Battey

Frederick S. Battey, 91, of Apalachin, NY passed away peacefully October 22, 2022. He was the son of the late Beatrice S. and Howell C. Battey, Liberty, NY. He was predeceased by his stepsister Beatrice, brother Donald, daughter Kathy, and his wife Joan. He is survived by two sons, Frederick and Randall and two daughters, Karen and Susan, a sister Dolores, sister-in-law Astrid, stepson Michael (Susan) Somers, grandchildren, Cherie, Ashlee, Justin, Amanda, Paul, Peter, Adam along with numerous great-grandchildren, and many dear friends who were like family. Fred spent 22 years in the Air Force retiring with the rank of Major. He then worked for GAF Corp / Anitec Corp, retiring in 1991. He was a two term past president of the Southern Tier Retired Officers Association and later served as a chapter officer in the local Air Force Association. He was a member of the Society of Photographic Scientists and Engineers and, American Production Control and Inventory Society. He and Joan spent years providing computer and proofreading services for the Owego Courier. He was an accomplished photographer, enjoyed gardening and computer applications giving freely of his time to assist others. Fred found beauty in all things; he used his photography skills to capture minute details that most would miss. He would often encourage his friends and family to be thankful for the beauty around us and to be better people. Funeral services will be held at Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, 6519 NY-434, Apalachin. Friends will be received 10:00am – 11:00am on Thursday, October 27, 2022, funeral service at 11:00am, Fr. John Martinichio officiating. Burial immediately following at Riverside Cemetery, Endicott, NY. Those wishing to make memorial gifts may contribute to Fred's memory to the charity of their choice.
