Obituary of Sally R Shafer

Sally (Sas) R. Shafer, 95, passed away peacefully at Willow Point Nursing Home on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, with family by her side. She was predeceased by her husband Elmer, son John, brothers George and Jack, and brother-in-law Nelson Shafer. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Jane & Stuart Jones; brother Raymond Jewell; sister-in-law Carolyn Shafer; sons and daughters-in-law Eric, Steve & Marie, Jeff & Sachiko, and Susan; grandchildren Nicki, Katie, Leigh, Forrest, Timbray, Joseph, Sierra, and Sarevah; 10 great-grandchildren; friend since childhood, Marge Newton; and many nieces, nephews and friends. In 1991, Sally retired from BOCES where she was a beloved Special Ed teacher. She danced at the Dance Connection for years and enjoyed being in their recitals. Her final performance was at age 87. She volunteered for 30 years at Great Camp Sagamore in Raquette Lake, NY. She certainly loved all things Adirondack (which she pronounced Adir-round-dack). Most of all, Sally treasured time spent with her family and dogs. She had an infectious laugh, a never-ending smile, and she loved to talk. We'll miss you, Sas! We would like to thank the staff at Willow Point for their compassionate care. We are grateful for the kindness and concern they showed for Sally every day. There will be a celebration of her life at a later date to be announced. Donations in her memory may be made to the Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation, or to the International Wolf Center in Ely, Minnesota.
