Obituary of Frances D Stuart

Frances Donahue Stuart of Vestal Frances D. Stuart, 87, of Vestal, died Wednesday, January 6, 2010. She was predeceased by her husband, Archie Stuart; a sister, Anna Shapley; and a brother, Gerald Donahue. She is survived by her 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Michon and Elaine, Collin and Rebecca; 2 grandchildren, Andrew and Marissa; a sister, Rosemarie Donahue; sister-in-law, Rosemary Grace Donahue; brother-in-law, Ernie Stuart; many nieces and nephews. She was born in Rasselas, PA in 1922. Her family moved to Endicott, NY in 1932 when her father got a job in the EJ Tannery during the great depression. She graduated from UE High School and worked at IBM during WWII. She moved to Texas to marry Archie Stuart in 1947. They moved back to Endicott and Later to Vestal. She was active in Our Lady of Sorrows Parish where she was a member of the altar rosary society, and helped organize many church activities. She was one of the early lay CCD religious education teachers. She also worked in the rectory as a bookkeeper/secretary for many years. She later worked at the Vestal News as a clerk/typist. She was also a member of the Vestal Historical society. She was an active volunteer at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital for many years. After her retirement she served as a volunteer at Birthright. In addition, she served as an election inspector at various Vestal Polling locations for over 40 yrs. We would like to thank the staff at the Homestead for their professional, devoted and loving care for our mother during the last years of her life. A Funeral Mass will be offered Saturday at 11a.m. from Our lady of Sorrows Church, Vestal. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the church Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Birthright, 435 Main St., Johnson City, NY 13790.
