Obituary of Donald E Getty

APALACHIN – Donald E. Getty, 87, passed away peacefully, at home, on the afternoon of Wednesday, April 5, 2023. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Doris Getty, and sons Edward (Cindy) and Daniel (Cathy) Getty. He is also survived by grandchildren Benjamin (Rebeka), Samuel (Yiskah), Zachary (Alyssa), Joshua, and Jonathan Getty and great-grandson Emanuel. Don was born in Punxsutawney, PA. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1953 to 1956, achieving the rank of Sergeant while serving as an airplane mechanic during the Korean War. After moving to Apalachin in 1959, he spent his entire career in commercial construction and electrical sign manufacturing and installation. He was as handy as they come. He was an active member of Park Terrace Community United Methodist Church most of his adult life and instrumental in the creation of the Park Terrace Food Pantry in 2003, particularly its early funding, logistics, and construction. He also channeled his passion for music and service to others to create the Praise Twice Music Ministry, a regional Christian music group dedicated to helping those who are facing food insecurity. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
