Obituary of John L. Gustafson

On Thursday, June 15, our beloved husband and father John L. Gustafson passed away. He was 88 years old. Born to Ragnar and Aileen Gustafson of Bemus Point, New York, he was a graduate of Purdue University and worked as a Systems Analyst at IBM Corp. for 31 years. He met his wife Ellen at IBM, and the two lived and raised their children in Vestal, NY. John and Ellen were married for 61 years. John was determined to take care of his family. He made sure his mother could stay in her home after his father died, and he looked after his wife until he became ill himself. He was also determined to maintain his independence and spent his last years going to the gym, grocery shopping, cooking for himself and Ellen, and maintaining their home. He was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, and he enjoyed reading the news and tinkering with his tools. The funeral mass was held at Our Lady of Sorrows in Vestal at 10 AM on June 22. John is survived by his wife Ellen (Loughrain) Gustafson; his daughter Sandra Gustafson, son-in-law Eric Ginsburg, and grandsons Tobias and Eli Ginsburg, all of Chicago, IL; and his son John and daughter-in-law Cecilia Castillo Gustafson of Briarcliff Manor, NY. He was preceded in death by his son Stephen James Gustafson and his parents, Ragnar and Aileen (Newbury) Gustafson. The burial service will be held at the Bemus Point, NY cemetery on Saturday, July 22 at 11 AM.
