Obituary of Joyce D. McPherson

With heavy hearts and fond memories, we celebrate the life of Joyce Dawn McPherson., 81, of Brackney, PA who went to be with our Lord on August 11, 2023. Born February 26, 1942, she lived in Binghamton, NY and eventually grew up on a Farm in Vestal, NY. Joyce was the Daughter of the late John D. and Shirley R. (Williams) Kilmer. Her son, Norman D. McPherson, also predeceased her. From a young age, Joyce had a love for horse(s) and she was just as full of Charisma and Spunk as her first horse, Silver. She loved nature and all creatures, big and small, especially her love of her dogs, Kelly, Molly, and Noah, true companions. She was a gardener and in her own words she would say, "The sight of spring flowers blooming, native plants with their beneficial insects, wildflowers in a meadow and walking in the woods are my passion." She felt closer to God in her gardens, peace and serenity by the water. Housework could wait, outdoors is where she loved to be. She had a way of drawing you into this world of perennials, their botanical names, magical terrariums, and miniature gardens. At the core of all she did was the love of spending time and sharing with her family. She loved ice-skating, cookouts, campfires with s'mores, sitting in her hot tub, boating and fishing on her pond with her children and grandchildren. She was proud of her six children. One of which was born with Tetralogy of Fallot, a Congenital Heart Defect. He held a special place in her heart. She was blessed, compassionate, and grateful for precious life. She felt the presence of our Lords work throughout her life and believed in him and his promise for eternal life. Norman's care taught her how to be an honorary nurse without the degree. One of her many proudest moments was graduating from Broome Community College in 1987 as a Registered Nurse. She was able to take a moment for herself and enjoy snorkeling in St. Croix and hiking in the Adirondacks. We were so proud of her. She finally had her moment to shine. She worked for Lourdes Oncology as a Hospice Nurse. She also worked for River Mede Manor Nursing Home until she retired in 2004. She graduated from Vestal High School in 1960. She gave her whole life to her family, to her patients she cared for, and friends that she loved dearly. She was an amazing Mother; she sewed outfits and wedding dresses, cooked from gardens of bounty, breakfasts, lunches and dinners and canned everything. We always had a full house and there was always room enough for one more at the dinner table. Extra special memories of Friday night Popcorn with Parmesan Cheese and Homemade pizza, delicious desserts before Sunday evening Disney. Throughout life, she continued to amaze people with her resilience and ability to endure no matter the task. She passed on these values and taught her children well. A true giver to the very end. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to carry on her legacy survive her: Kristen (Keith) Owen, Lorraine McPherson, Erin (Jennifer) McPherson, Kara (Todd) Everitt, and Joy McPherson. Grandchildren: Kiel and Kasey (Rebecca) Owen, Jeremy, Nicholas (Amy) Donahue, Holly (Matthew) Wintringer, Karrin (Chris) Jarrett, Matthew and Holden McPherson, Olivia, Audra and Wyatt Everitt. Great Grandchildren: Nevaeh, Jaycob, Baylee and Stella. Her sister Nancy Lamb and Nephews Vern (Jennifer) and Kenneth Williams and several special cousins, nieces and nephews and extended family also survive her. Thank you for the Love you shared and Memories you gave to all of us. Until we meet again. Services: Memorial Service will be officiated by Pastor Joe Bynum at Silver Lake Christian Community Church on August 28, 2023 at 11:00 am. There will be a Burial at Vestal Park Cemetery immediately following Memorial Service. For more information or directions, please go to Coleman and Daniels Funeral Home website.
