Joan (Whalen) Farrell Obituary

Joan (Whalen) Farrell, born on March 8, 1934, departed peacefully with her family by her side on October 13, 2023. Joan was the cherished daughter of Eva and John Whalen and a loving sister to her brothers, John and Eugene (Bill), all of whom preceded her in death.

She is survived by her devoted husband, William (Bill), and her beloved children, Michael, Daniel, Nancy (Salvatore) Testani, and Denise Farrell. Joan's legacy lives on through her cherished grandchildren: Audrey Quinlivan, Dustin Farrell, Alicia (William) Lally, Michelle (Jason) Rood, Joseph Farrell, Rebecca Farrell, and Parker Farrell. She was also a proud great-grandmother to Bailey Quinlivan, Riley Quinlivan, Jack Lally, and Connor Lally. In addition to her immediate family, Joan held countless nieces, nephews and her cherished friend Ann O'Brien close to her heart. She nurtured those relationships with love and care.

Joan and Bill exchanged their vows at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Syracuse, NY on November 5, 1955. Their unwavering love spanned 67 years, the majority of which was spent in West Endicott. Joan was a homemaker who also enjoyed working for several years at Fanny Farmer, Burts, and CVS.

Joan had a passion for crocheting and enjoyed attending craft shows with her friend Ellen Anderson. Her home on Frey Avenue was a gathering place for family and friends alike. Joan's dedication to her faith was evident through her lifelong commitment to the Catholic faith as a devoted member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Endicott.

The family invites you to join them in honoring Joan's memory at the calling hours, to be held from 5-7 PM on Thursday, October 19, at Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home in Endicott. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 20 at 11 AM, with a calling hour beginning at 10 AM at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church. A brief ceremony will be held at Calvary Cemetery immediately following Mass with a luncheon to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made in Joan's memory to Our Lady of Good Counsel Church Soup Kitchen. Joan's warmth, love, and enduring spirit will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
