Obituary of Ruth M. Mills-Knight

Ruth Mills-Knight of Vestal Ruth Mills-Knight, of Vestal, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2010, at her home after a year long battle with breast cancer. She is survived by her beloved husband and soul mate, David Clark Knight and was predeceased by her first husband of 44 years, George Mills in 1987. Ruth was a lifetime resident of the Vestal/Endicott area where she raised her family. She retired from the Giant Market, where she worked in the meat department of the Johnson City store. Over the last ten years, Ruth would spend her winters in Virginia Beach, VA, with her daughter, Linda Cadden. In the fall of 2008 she renewed her friendship with David Knight, a very close friend of her first husband, George when they were in their teens, and their love for each other grew. David and Ruth were married on August 7th, 2009 at the Apalachin United Methodist Church with Pastor M.J. Simonin officiating. Besides David; Ruth is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon Cantales and Robert Cantales of Johnson City, NY, Linda Cadden of Virginia Beach, VA, and Bonnie Mills Kalaf and Jerry Kalaf of Studio City, CA; her grandchildren, Michael Taber and his wife, Leslie Taber of Virginia Beach, VA, Paul Cadden of Virginia Beach, VA, and Nicole Kalaf-Hughes and her husband, Clayton Kalaf-Hughes of Davis, CA; her great-granddaughter, Daphne Jane Taber of Virginia Beach, VA; and Melody, her feline companion of 14 years; and Sage Cadden, the best little lap dog. In addition, Ruth is survived by her sister, Jean Blodgett and her husband, Charles Blodgett; also several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Clayton and Rhonda Austin and Audrey Stayer for their love and caring during this time and they would especially like to thank the angels of Lourdes Hospice: Sharon Landon, Linda Pette, Mary, Betty, Luann, Mary Pat and Amy. They were the most caring and loving individuals during this difficult time of need. Thank you also to Dr. Readling, Broome Oncology, and Lourdes Radiation Oncology. A very special thank you to George and Linda Herrick for their love and concern at this difficult time. A funeral service to celebrate Ruth's life will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, Inc., 765 Main St., Vestal. The Rev. Mary Jean Simonin will officiate. Burial will be in the Vestal Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12 noon until service time at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
