Obituary of Eleanore J Ternowski
Eleanore "Ellie"Josephine (Raineri) Ternowski, 92, died Saturday November 25, 2023.
Our beloved Eleanore went to be with the lord after a brief illness.
She was predeceased by her parents, eight brothers and sisters, her husband, Michael Ternowski, her grandson Derek Dylan Prindle and several nieces and nephews. She is survived by her daughters and son's in-law: Joyce Prindle, Binghamton, NY, Marie and James Gresham, Apalachin, NY and Kathlene and Mario Paulmbo, Beaverton, OR. Grandchildren: Laila Prindle, Erica Palumbo and Rory and Jordan Gresham. Many nieces and nephews and her beloved hell cat Mimi.
She was born in Glen Lyon, PA on October 25, 1931. She was raised by a large tight nit family on a sprawling farm in Wapwallopen, PA where she worked and, in the evening, would catch lightening bugs and sit on the front porch and talk with her family.
She eventually became the manager of the family market. She enjoyed going out dancing and in 1957 and met her husband, Michael.
They were married on Easter Monday, April 22, 1957 in Kingston, PA after getting dispensation from the Bishop for an Easter Monday wedding. She then drove across county and moved to California. They eventually came back east and settled in Binghamton NY. Here, she raised 3 daughters. She worked and retired from Grand Union grocery store and was better known as Ellie in the Deli.
Ellie thrived on being a social butterfly. In her later years, she enjoyed her social life with very good friends including Michael Evanick and Mary Simons. She spent many hours on the phone with her granddaughter Laila discussing every topic imaginable. She loved her grandchildren, the Yankees, sunshine, the opera and her second family at Evergreen apartments. Over the past few years her social life was online with many people from around the world. This included a visit from a friend from Sicily this past summer. This visit was a highlight for her and she valued it immensely. She was well liked and respected by everybody that knew her and she will be dearly missed.
We would like to thank all the staff that worked with her for their very caring ways.
Any donations in her memory can be made to RiverView Manor, Owego NY.
There will be a private family service at a later date.
