Obituary of Richard C Avondet
Richard Charles Avondet, 83 years old, born August 22,1940, in East Rockaway, New York, died on Monday, February 12, 2024, in Johnson City, NY from complications due to pneumonia.
Richard is predeceased by his parents Charles Avondet and Margaret MacDonald and brother Jim Avondet and half-siblings Charles and Caroline.
He leaves behind his beloved wife Marilyn, daughter Donna, son-in-law Tom, grandson Willem, sisters Barbara Kenny and Susan Avondet. He was a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews: Jim, Janice, Jeanne, Charlie and Kyle, Brian, Kevin, Ed, Chris and all their wives, husbands and grand nieces and nephews.
Richie loved his guitar, singing and the NY Mets. He watched every game he could gain access to and would watch fast-track replays of the ones he watched as well as any innings he missed. He always supported his nieces and nephews' endeavors and would share his drafting skills with them when they needed the help. He would also play his guitar and sing for anyone and everyone who would listen to him whether they wanted to or not and we loved him for it.
For his daughter, he would move mountains. It was tumultuous for them during her teenage years but as they grew older, they grew closer. They would watch as many games as they could together and if they didn't get to see them, they would dissect and discuss them daily. He would tell anyone who would listen about what his daughter did for her career and how very proud he was of her.
He was very supportive of his grandson's adventures throughout school including his sports and all his musical accomplishments and couldn't have been prouder of the young man he has become. They would sit and talk music and baseball any chance they could.
For many years, Richie loved to go bowling with his wife and they would bowl leagues together for decades. Later in his life he began to develop macular degeneration and dementia and was no longer stable enough on his feet to bowl, but in his mind, he was still bowling every night. He would tell his wife and daughter all the time he left wild splits and what a rough night it was on the lanes.
For Richie, the last five years were very difficult medically and he can now rest in peace and is no longer in pain.
