Obituary of Lola Flipse

Lola M. (Joiner) Flipse of Vestal Friday, February 5th, 2010 was the greatest day in the 100-year life of Lola M. Flipse. Because of her faith in Jesus Christ, she was promoted directly to Heaven to be with Jesus, the One she loved and served since a small child. She was born on February 22, 1909, the daughter of J. Ray and Sarah (Green) Joiner. In Heaven, she was reunited with her beloved husband of 54 years, Edward Flipse. She was also predeceased by their daughter, Barbara; two sons-in-law, James Barren and Frank Oostdyk; two grandsons, James Barren and Robert Barren; a brother, Albert Joiner; four sisters, Juanita Bennett, Grace Fields, Ella Merrill, and Lavilla (Billy) Hill. She is survived by two daughters, Virginia Barren of Wake Forest, NC and Alberta Oostdyk of Vestal; a son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Edward L. (Bud) and Sheila Flipse of Vestal; one brother, Walter Joiner of Troy, PA; six grandchildren and spouses, Ronald and Ginny Barren of Vestal, Linda and Frank Moore of Wake Forest, NC, Rick and Sandy Newman of Westminister, CO, Sandy and Allen Brosman of Hammond, IN, Cindy and Jerry Luke of Phoenix, AZ, Mick and Sheila Newman of Crown Point, IN; 21 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren, plus many nieces and nephews, stepchildren, grand, and great, and great-great, and great-great-great-stepgrandchildren. Lola was born in Union Center, NY and attended Union Endicott High School and Baptist Bible Seminary. She grew up in Vestal Center. As a member of Vestal Center Baptist Church, Grace Baptist Church in Binghamton, and, since 1955, Calvary Baptist Tabernacle in Vestal, she taught Sunday School, Release Time, Vacation Bible School and was involved in many other church ministries. She had been a resident on Glenwood Road in Vestal for 70 years. Besides her church work, she will be remembered for her love of flowers, her delicious baked goods, meals and hospitality. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Vestal Nursing Center for their love and tender care given to Lola. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 13, 2010, at 12 noon from the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home Inc., 765 Main St., Vestal. Burial will be in Vestal Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time at 12 noon. Memorials may be made to Davis College in Johnson City, NY.
