Obituary of Joan M. Pitts
Joan Pitts, better known as Joni or "G-ma", passed away at 80 years old on March 20th at Wilson Hospital surrounded by family. Joan was born November 25, 1943 on Thanksgiving Day to Robert and Bertha Pitts.
Joan is predeceased by her Parents, Bertha and Robert, and her sisters, Peggy and Jean. She is survived by her sister Roberta (Gerald), her son Rich (Adrienne), her grandchildren Holly (Nick), Chris (Kellsea), Dana (John), Jamieson, and her many nieces and nephews.
Joan lived in Endicott where she proudly worked at IBM for 24 years, retiring in 2002. She was known for her high energy and humor amongst her coworkers.
Joan lived a viciously independent life. She often reminded those around her that the life she created for herself was through her own hard work. She had one son, Rich, whom she provided for by herself. One of her proudest moments was having her home built.
Joan was a social butterfly. Her passion was to make people laugh. She loved to spend time with her family and friends, especially her best friend Betty Brady. She spent many years volunteering in the local community and was a proud supporter of women's rights.
Joan was loved and cared for by many kind folks like her dear friends Larry and Jeff, and the staff at North Tower 4 at Wilson Hospital.
Joan will be remembered by her fiery spirit and her out-of-this-world pumpkin cookies.
Per her wishes there will be a burial and no formal service. Those wishing to honor her may make donations to Mom's House in JC.
