Obituary of Fred Arnold

Frederick Joseph Arnold of Endicott A kind and gentle man has gone home to his Lord and Savior. Fred Arnold died Wednesday, February 10, 2010, at Lourdes Hospital, resulting from complications of lung cancer. Born September 16, 1933 in Lebanon, PA. Preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Beatrice Arnold; brothers, Herbert Jr. and John; and his sister, Rita Woolley; also his son-in-law, James M. Reif. Survived by his wife, Anne, of 50 years; children Joseph (Maria) Arnold, John (Elizabeth) Arnold, Susan Reif, Peter (Renee) Arnold, Carolyn (Robert) Mikeska, Mary (Kenneth Jr.) Francisco and David Arnold. He was the best Papa to 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by his sisters, Elizabeth (Donald) Brown Sr., Joan Arnold, OLVM, Louise (William) Hughes, Eleanor (William) McCann, Helen (Thomas) Bozzo; a sister-in-law, Virginia Arnold; as well as a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Eugene and Rosalia Woolley. Fred was an active member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church. He was a Eucharistic minister, lector, trustee, member of the Nocturnal Adoration Society and very involved in the Soup Kitchen. He was past President of the West Corners Little League and volunteered with Boy Scout Troop 234. He was an active volunteer with Meals on Wheels of Western Broome County and with Birthright of Binghamton. Fred was in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict, serving time in Iwo Jima as an Air Traffic Control Operator. Fred graduated from Penn State, York, Pennsylvania campus in 1959. He was an electrical engineer at IBM Glendale for 33 years, where he was member of the Quarter Century Club. He retired in 1992 as a senior engineer. Fred enjoyed golfing, but his greatest love was spending time with his family and having cookouts and bonfires in the backyard. Fred will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, February 15, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 705 West Main St., Endicott. Burial will follow at Riverhurst Cemetery, Endwell. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Fred's name to Meals on Wheels of Western Broome, Birthright of Binghamton, or Our Lady of Good Counsel Soup Kitchen. Rest in peace, my love.
