Obituary of Cheryl A. Laibe

Cheryl A Laibe, 67, passed away peacefully on the morning of April 15th at Wilson Hospital, with her family by her side. Cheryl fought a long, hard battle and was an inspiration to so many. She was the most loving wife, mother, grandmother, and the most loyal friend. Cheryl was born on April 3, 1957 in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. She later lived in Florida for a short time before moving to Vestal, New York, where she worked as a kindergarten teacher's aide for the Vestal School District for over 20 years. She poured herself into her job and loved working with all the children. She was known for her compassion, patience and her "big hugs." She absolutely loved the beach, family trips and get togethers, shopping country stores, and being part of a Bunco group. Cheryl loved her family fiercely, and will be more than missed by so many. Cheryl was predeceased by her parents, James A Birtwell and Dolores A (Precourt), her brothers- Kevin Birtwell, John Birtwell and James Birtwell III. She leaves behind her husband, John Laibe; her two daughters- Erin Irizarry (Justin) and Amber Laibe (Taylor), her three beautiful grandchildren- Angela, Justin Jr and Jonathan Irizarry; her niece Crystal (Birtwell); all her four legged fur grandbabies, devoted friends, and many other wonderful family members. Visitation will take place Sunday April 21, 2024 at Coleman & Daniel's Funeral Home, 765 Main St in Vestal from 3-5 pm. There will be a Funeral Mass Monday April 22, 2024 at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Burial to follow at the Vestal Park Cemetery. She will be our sunshine always and forever. If considering making a memorial contribution- her favorite flower was a sunflower.
