Obituary of John P Gromniak

John P. Gromniak of Johnson City, NY, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at the age of 93. John was a longtime resident of Apalachin, NY, where he and his beloved wife Irene raised their four children. In addition to his parents Peter and Anna Gromniak, John is predeceased by his wife of 51 years Irene Gromniak. He is survived by his daughters Suzanne Gromniak (Bill Swingle) of Florida, Teresa Mendelson (Mark) of Owego, NY, Nancy Alexander (Larry) of Florida, and son Ted Gromniak of Owego, NY. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, his sisters Bernadine Kennedy and Barbara Frazier, both of TN, and several nephews and their families. John was born in Plymouth, PA, and upon graduation from high school he joined the United States Air Force. He served in the Aleutian Islands as a radio operator, which later fueled his involvement in the ham radio community. He was a graduate of Penn State University, where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering; and Syracuse University, obtaining his Master of Science degree in engineering administration. He was employed as an electrical engineer at IBM Owego, retiring in 1990. John was a long-time member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church and served in the Stephen Ministries. He loved to play his accordion, eat kielbasa, and dance the polka. A Funeral Mass will be offered at 10 AM Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at St. Margaret Mary Church, 1110 Pennsylvania Ave., Apalachin, NY, 13732. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Apalachin. The family will receive friends at Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, 6519 Rt 434, Apalachin, NY on Monday, May 6, 2024, from 5-7 PM.
