Obituary of Howard R. "Hoot" Gibson

Hoot Gibson passed away on June 24, 2024, at Mercy House Endicott NY at the age of 81 after an extended illness. Born on September 12, 1942, Hoot served 4 years with the United States Air Force, serving his country before embarking on a successful career as a framing and remodeling contractor. Hoot was known for his trademark whistling and loved spending time with his family and friends. He loved watching the Yankees & Giants play and John Wayne movies. He enjoyed spending his summers fishing at his place on Seneca Lake. Hoot was a beloved member of the Vestal Elks, where he enjoyed spending his time engaging with his community and participating in various social activities. His presence at the lodge will be greatly missed by his fellow members. He is survived by his wife, Carol Gibson Vestal, NY; daughter, Kari Gibson Reed Waverly, NY; and grandchildren, Jakob, Gracie, Taylor, Arron. Andrew Reed of Endicott NY holding a special place in his heart akin to a son. He also leaves behind his brother and sister-in-law, John & Barbra Gibson, Bill & Annette Gibson, Apalachin, NY, sister, Nancy Gibson Apalachin, NY. He had several nieces and nephews who adored him as well. Hoot was preceded in death by his parents, Barbara and Harry (Moose) Gibson, and his sister, Sally Donner Gibson. The family will receive friends from 4-7 PM on Monday, July 8th at Coleman and Daniels on Route 434 in Apalachin, NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mercy House of Endicott, an organization close to Hoot's heart. His legacy of warmth, generosity, and dedication to both his family and community will not be forgotten.
