Obituary of Joanne Gormley
Joanne Gormley of Endicott, NY passed away peacefully on June 22, 2024 at the age of 87. She was born in Lounsberry, NY and grew up in Owego, NY. Over the last several years of her life she recounted many good memories of her childhood and school years in Owego. She also had many fond childhood memories of spending summers with aunts, uncles and cousins on the Moore farm in Nichols, NY.
As a young woman she worked for the telephone company in Owego, and then Burt's Department Store in Endicott, NY, before moving on to a long career at IBM, where she was inducted into the Quarter Century Club in 1991. Throughout her adult life she enjoyed spending time with her extended family, especially her sisters and their families. She enjoyed skiing, and going to the beach, taking kids to the circus, parades and other local events. Later in life she especially loved shopping and eating out at local restaurants with her husband Edward Gormley.
During her retirement, Joanne enjoyed volunteering at the Phelps Mansion Museum, and attending the Campville Methodist Church. She also enjoyed attending the Endicott Ladies Club luncheons and meeting lifelong friends and extended family for lunch or dinner.
Joanne was predeceased by her husband Edward Gormley and her parents Lester and Anna (Goodenough) Moore, her sister Kay Faber, and her step-son Christopher Gormley. She is survived by her loving sister Susan Robinson. She leaves a legacy of love through her children, Lauri Webster (Karl Pastore) of Milton, Massachusetts, Amy (Arthur) Paquette of Jacksonville, Florida, and her step children Stephen (Laurie) Gormley of Hoosic Falls, NY and Jennifer (Timothy) Schrantz of Fredonia, NY. She was a beloved grandmother to ten grandchildren: Luke Pastore; Taylor, Allison, Reid and Meghan Murphy; Jena (Robert) Calph, Michael (Maggie Caron) Gormley, Matthew (Rachel) Gormley, and Nathan and Samuel Schranz. She also had many beloved nieces and nephews who brought her an enormous amount of joy.
A Memorial Service will be held at Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, LLC., 300 East Main Street, Endicott, NY 13760 on Saturday, September 14, at 11:00 AM.
