Obituary of Gerald Crane

Gerald Sutton Crane of Vestal Gerald Sutton Crane of Vestal, New York, passed away March 27, 2010 at his home. He was born February 26, 1919 in Endicott, NY to the late George B. and Zena Crane. He graduated from Union-Endicott High School in June of 1937 and then attended R.P.I. in Troy, NY for one year. Gerald started working for Crane & Taylor Feed Mill in Vestal, NY on January 1, 1939. In July of that year, he bought out Henry Taylor's share of the mill and it was then operated as G.B. Crane & Son. Gerald married Virginia Rae Jersey, the daughter of Albert and Bertha Jersey of Vestal, New York on October 19, 1940. They enjoyed 65 years of marriage. He proudly served in the United States Army from May 1944 to April 1946 during World War II. When George Crane retired on July 1, 1949, Gerald then operated Crane's Vestal Agway as his own business. Gerald retired when the mill closed in July of 1994. Gerald was a member of the Memorial Park Baptist Church of Vestal. Mr. Crane was predeceased by his loving wife, Virginia; his parents, George B. and Zena Crane; his in-laws, Albert and Bertha Jersey; his sister, Thelma Robinson; and his brother-in-law, Don Gerrish. Gerald is survived by his sister, Doris Gerrish of Seminole, Florida; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Don and Jean Jersey of Cary, North Carolina; and many nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service for Gerald will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 2, 2010, at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, Inc., 765 Main Street, Vestal, NY. The Rev. Marlene Steenburg, pastor of his church, and the Rev. Dr. Richard Schultheis will officiate. Burial will be in Riverhurst Cemetery, Endicott.
