Obituary of Shirley Buchma

Shirley A. Buchma of Vestal Shirley Ann Kilmer Buchma, born on August 13, 1937 in Walton, NY, left this world on Tuesday, April 27, 2010, at her home. When Shirley passed away, she was surrounded by her loving family, who survives her. Her husband of 49 years, John; her four children, Bonnie (Kevin) Whiting, Apalachin, Cathy (Jay) Teinert, Bedford, TX, John Joseph (JJ.) ( Becky) Buchma, Cheshire, UK, Karrie Buchma, Vestal. Shirley was called BaBa, a name she loved very much, by five beautiful grandchildren, Tyler (Tippy), Lillie "Girl" and Connor Whiting, all of Apalachin, and Julia and Sam Teinert of Bedford, TX. "Being BaBa was the high point of her life." She is also survived by one sister, Rose, Guiles, Corning, NY; many beloved nieces and nephews; a godson, Father Charles Baxter, of Vancouver, BC. Shirley was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Nora Kilmer of Hamden, NY; two brothers, Don and Robert Kilmer; and one sister, Louise Stevens. Shirley was a member of St. John's Ukranian Orthodox Church and its Sisterhood. Shirley enjoyed reading and old western movies, but most of all shopping. When Mom could still travel, she loved visiting her brother Don on the farm, where she enjoyed many Kilmer family gatherings. What brought Shirley the most joy over the years was hosting the "Buchma parties" at her home. If we were lucky, she would play the piano and sing before the night was over. Those were the best times. The family will receive friends at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home Inc., 765 Main Street, Vestal, on Sunday, May 2, 2010, from 2 to 4 p.m. A celebration of Shirley's life will commence at 4 p.m. Interment will be at the family's convenience.
